Reader Question: Countertop Dilemma!

Are you starting the process of looking at new countertops and wonder what is new, stylish and classic? Not sure if you want quartz, marble, granite, travertine or something else? I had a reader working on her kitchen project this week and she wrote and asked my advice:

Describe your project: Cottage project. All walls are Grant Beige. Getting new kitchen cabinets painted BM Wrought Iron. Difficulty picking countertop. Quartz. Looked at Aria and Intermezzo. Also Black. Any suggestions?

Hi Kelly, (her name is Kelly too!)

So I started looking and got lost online with countertops. Too many to choose from! KEY TIP: A lot depends on what is available to you in your area. You can look online for ideas but you need to find out what is available locally to you to purchase and have installed.

For ideas and inspiration, I found a great website with all different types of counters with photos and descriptions of where best to use surface and saw a few I really like, especially one like this: https://marble.com/galleries/details/kitchens/106. Because of the dark painted cabinets, I would stay away from dark counters and pick a white background whatever surface you choose. White with black in it, or white with gray and black specks in it.

If you want to look on site and find what are available options, I can help you narrow down choices after you get down to a few. Hope this is helpful.

Hello! Thanks for your response. I found two. Aria or intermezzo. The kitchen walls are grant beige and the cupboards are wrought iron. What do you think?

She did a great job picking counters that work so well with Grant Beige and Wrought Iron! I love both paint colors and they work so well together.

I like the Aria best, very pretty!! Lighter than Intermezzo, which I also like but Aria just looks perfect for your cabinet colors and Grant Beige.

Let me know!

Although I originally liked the intermezzo, I am going with the quartz Aria. I agree the former may be too dark. I think I need the lightness of Aria! I will send a photo when done!

I hope we get to see an after photo!

Hope this post will be helpful for those searching for the perfect countertop. There are a lot of choices, but after you narrow down with the cost, what is local for you and availability you have already narrowed down quite a bit. Send me an email if you need help with your kitchen selections.

Thanks everyone!

Kelly xo
