What I Love About Pantone’s 2016 Color Choice
I’m sure you have seen the announcement of Pantone’s colors for 2016. What do you think of the color duo?
Pantone Serenity Pantone Rose Quartz
I think we assume the color of the year will be a color picked exclusively for interior design and paint color. But how often have we used Pantone’s color choice of the year for our walls?Rarely ever. Pantone has a system that helps manufacturers define color precisely. Every year, the company polls décor and fashion designers, as well as manufacturers and retailers, on what colors they plan to use, led by Leatrice Eiseman, to pick the color of the coming year. Pantone tips off some marketing partners so that they can create products, such as Sephora cosmetics and Keurig coffee makers, that use the colors:KitchenAid’s iconic Stand Mixer in Guava Glaze, a warm pink tone informed by PANTONE 13-1520 Rose Quartz. What am I loving about the color combination? Because, have you seen the fabric using Pantone’s 2016 color choices together!?A Carolina Herrera design for spring. PHOTO: JP YIM/GETTY IMAGES

And soon there will be a lot more selection in accessories and furnishings! I like the individual two colors but what I really love is the color combo together. I predict we will be using the colors together in fabric and other accessories more than just one of the colors alone. What I took away the most from reading all about the new Pantone 2016 color:“We wanted compassion, which today a lot of people are looking for,” Ms. Eiseman says. Pantone’s news release describes the colors as “inducing feelings of stability, constancy, comfort and relaxation,” and argues that they “create balance in a chaotic world.” sourceI don’t know if I would paint my walls pink, but here is a couple of beautiful rooms that might make me change my mind!:
ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY COLOR PAIRINGS
Whether in soft or hard surface material, the pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation. Appealing in all finishes, matte, metallic and glossy, the engaging combo joins easily with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns, and all shades of yellow and pink. Add in silver or hot brights for more splash and sparkle.
And it certainly is better than the nail polish color last year, Marsala. What do you think of the combo? Would love to hear.
